"Dial-a-Diva" was a 24 hour global telephonic broadcast of sung performances developed by Artist Zoƫ Irvine. For the Stavanger 2008 edition of Dial-a-Diva, Cat worked as the lead researcher and broadcast operator.
During the event there are two types of call 1. the singers (content) and 2. the listeners (client). The content calls come from concerts throughout the world, roughly speaking, in accordance with time zones starting in Australia, moving through Asia, the Indian sub-continent, the middle East, Europe and finally the Americas. These concerts included a variety of performances and venues from an opera house to a living room.
The call centre acts as an interface between this material and the listeners callers who wish to hear the project live over that 24 hour period. Local rate numbers will set up to allow people to dial up cheaply from a number of countries. The call centre workers will act as Djs for the listeners who can choose between concerts or have a mix. The entire sonic output of the project (the concerts, the telephonists and the listeners) will all be audible in the gallery space, where the call centre will be visible to visitors.
